Will taking greens powder make me healthier?

If your Instagram targeted ads and the influencers you follow are anything like mine, you’ve probably been bombarded with targeted adverts for ‘greens powder’ from the likes of AG1 or Bloom Nutrition. I have never bought a greens powder, but I have been very close to purchasing on several occasions. Honestly, the main barrier to me trying it out is the price - these powders aren’t cheap!

If you read all the purported health benefits of these supplements, you’d think taking them will turn you superhuman!

AG1, the brand that I’ve seen the most advertising for, claims a massive range of health benefits.

Greens powders and similar types of supplement are made of dried and powdered vegetable and plant extracts. They claim to provide the nutrients that would be supplied by these plants in whole form in a small, easily consumed package,

There’s not much research on how the body processes nutrients when in powdered or capsule form. We know that when these foods are consumed as whole foods, the body can make good use of the nutrition available, but the body might process these supplements differently (remember that greens powder still counts as a processed food!). Until research is done in this area we can’t for certain know how much of the nutrition from greens powder is absorbed.
